While an ancient trinket against apprentice shambler is decent enough to try such a hard fight with high risks, the same ancient trinket alone isn´t enough to justify a fight against a veteran/champion shambler. What irks me more is the reward, especially in veteran and champion dungeon.
I think it's basically the same mechanic as a surprise attack. I've fled from him after summoning before. I think you can retreat after the first or second round. A line similar to "with no hope for return" would probably fix it. For someone who meets that shrine the first time and gives a second thought about the text, this can mislead to the assumption that he could retreat when things go bad. Unfortunately, the text doesn´t give any hint that you can´t retreat in the fight. I like that it has got a different (red) glow around it.
